Our story

Made whole again,
in gold.

Kintsugi Stones is a birthstone jewellery shop owned by survivors of trauma.

i.

The meaning of kintsugi

金継ぎ

Kintsugi (金継ぎ, “golden joinery”) is a centuries-old Japanese craft of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold.

Instead of disguising the cracks, the repair traces them in gold, so the break becomes part of the piece’s beauty and history.

The piece is not thrown away. It is made whole again — and is often more treasured for having been broken.

Kintsugi is closely linked with the Japanese appreciation of imperfection and impermanence: the idea that a life lived leaves marks, and that those marks are worth honouring rather than hiding. That idea sits at the heart of Kintsugi Stones.

Why we exist

We chose birthstones because they mark a beginning — a month, a life, a person who matters. We chose kintsugi because recovery is rarely seamless.

Healing leaves marks. Those marks can hold light.

We’re building more than a shop. We’re building a small, gentle community of people who know what it means to break and still keep going. Every piece is meant to be a quiet reminder.

You are still here, and your story is not over.

iii.

Where the money goes

Kintsugi Stones is a not-for-profit. We are not a charity ourselves.

Once the costs of running the shop are covered — stock, packaging, postage, payment and platform fees — all of our profits are donated to frontline charities with DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status. We are always looking for those in the most need.

iv.

How our pieces are sourced

We’re honest about this. We don’t make our jewellery ourselves.

We buy finished pieces from wholesale suppliers, they’re delivered to us here in Australia, and we check, repackage and send each one with a Kintsugi Stones message card. We describe the materials of every piece plainly — plated is plated, cz/g stones are labelled cz/g — so you always know exactly what you’re buying.

What we add is the story, the care, and the promise that buying something beautiful also helps keep frontline help running.

A note of care

You don’t have to go through it alone.

Trauma recovery looks different for everyone. We’re a jewellery shop, not a clinical or crisis service. If you or someone you love is in danger, call 000. For 24/7 crisis support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
